ABOUT

Tokai first opened in 1989 in a building known at the time as the Sears Building. Since then we have become part of a kernel of Japanese restaurants and stores at the Porter Exchange. The mall is also known as the “Japan Town” of Cambridge; the largest concentration of Japanese business in the New England area. While the restaurants are a big attraction at the mall, our customers are always delighted to make Tokai part of their visit to Japan Town.

Over the decades we have found many Japanese gifts that capture both the traditional and modern spirit of the Japanese culture. Our hand-made ceramics and pottery ware are direct from crafters in Japan and include styles such as Oribe, Shigaraki, and Mashiko. We also carry products from many reputable Japanese brand names such as Iwachu tea pots, Shoyeido and Nippon Kodo incense, and Sanrio gifts for the fun side in everyone.

It is our commitment to find the right Japanese gifts for our customers. If there’s a particular gift you’re having trouble finding, just give us a call or stop by the store. Put in a special request and we’ll try to find it for you!
